The fuck? Did Emma and Jean install magnets in their boobs? Maybe their implants came from the same less-than-safe back alley “plastic surgeon who knows what he’s doing, don’t worry”?
Wolverine’s been on that there synthol. That bicep’s probably full of infected pus, bro. Watch your claws or everyone’s gonna end up deformed AND slimed.
Is… is that woman in the back supposed to have four arms, or is Greg Land just cross-eyed?
At least it’s not a Liefeldian horror… But I comes DAMN close.
First off the woman in the background is Spiral she in fact as 6 arms and I think that’s actually Madelyne Pryor not Jean if I remember correctly.
But yeah Logan’s bicep is gonna explode and I am pretty sure by the angle of Emma and Madelyne’s chests I’m pretty sure their breasts are trying desperately to escape and float off into the great beyond.
Help, i've fallen into this never-ending pit of despair on Christmas day. Also, I have never been so grateful for the fact that I didn't get into comics until very recently. Thank you for doing this so the next generation won't have to, urgh.
We do what we can. Go out and enjoy the holiday, don’t let Land’s porn faces dampen your day.
Hey look she actually kind of has hips! Unfortunately despite that exciting change of pace, her neck is doing something weird, her leg seems to have been amputated mid thigh, and her chest is defying all logic.
On a different note, who are some artists whose work you do admire?
I can’t speak for Ava, well I can but my my version of Ava only says things like “Wow Joan is a gift from the heavens which deity must I thank for her existence?”
My personal favorites are Phil Noto, Olivier Coipel, and Terry Dodson. I always feel like I should include Chris Bachalo but I have grown less fond of him. I think his best stuff was during the End Of Greys arc in Uncanny X-Men a few years back.
Clay Mann is an honorable mention, Jim Cheung, Mike Choi, and Stuart Immonen as well. David LaFuente Garcia did the art for the Hellcat mini a couple years ago and I really liked that a lot. David Marquez did an All New X-Men arc a few months back and while I didn’t love his art before that, he drew that arc beautifully.
Well, that was a violent response. And that's why this blog is starting to look incredibly pathetic because you're hating on him for the sake of hating without getting your facts straight. Tracing does not include looking at another artist's work. It must be a 1:1 copy for it to be a trace. Yes, I have read your blog but your definition of tracing is still wrong. I'm not "on a high horse", you're simply wrong and can't admit to being wrong. Hate on him for things he's actually done wrong.
there are essays that are linked on the ethical and moral repercussions of hiring people such as land, who is one of the worst offenders for promoting misogyny via his inaccurate and hypersexualised poses and anatomies
and i just don’t care about what you have to say
in any way, shape or form
sidenote: i don’t run this blog anymore and it is mostly run by user submissions and reblogs, and considering how much anon hate i get in my inbox every second day or so, you can’t be surprised that i’ve stopped giving a damn about what people on anon have to say
you want the ””quality”” of this blog to go up? submit your own findings and essays
Heya, same anon (again). Thanks for deleting my ask expressing that your criticism of Land's so called "tracing" is invalid and blatantly unfair. It's nice to know your critical integrity and complete lack of bias remains so strong in these matters. And no, I'm not a troll, I'm simply tired of people incorrectly attacking people for things they haven't done.
i literally don’t care
you stay on your high horse, my dear, one day you’ll realise it’s an ass and so are you
Greg is a good artist, but he's not a great one either. 20 years of career doesn't mean shit if you stop improving your art and learning to fix what you are weak at. He should learn from Drew Struzan.
His art style has drastically changed over the years actually. If you read his old Birds Of Prey stuff his art was actually pretty good, though he had a habit of tracing other artists back then which is a huge no-no.
Like really how did he think he’d get away with this? (Check out the artist swipe tag for more examples)
I honestly prefer him tracing porn than him stealing from other artists.
At least the porn tracing is good for a laugh.
But the style back in Birds Of Prey over all was way more pleasing. Unfortunately in an industry that seems to believe their only customers are young boys the idea that sex sells is a popular one and Greg Land’s work over the years has changed to reflect that. He didn’t stop improving his art, it’s just that what he considers improving most of us consider a horrible backslide. But eh what can you do? He’s the one with the huge career and the two of us running this blog are just poor college kids who see his name on a comic cover and cringe.
Hey man, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I also don’t care for Angelina Jolie as an actor personally but she also has a thriving career. Guess what? That doesn’t change my personal opinion about her abilities. How about that? It’s funny how people are allowed to have differing opinions about whether or not an artist of any profession is particularly good at their craft.
The altered versions of those Ultimate Power panels are from mightygodking's parody, which is full of jokes about Land's traced porn faces. It's the top hit if you Google "mightygodking ultimate power", and I recommend it.
I’ll be sure to check it out after my midterms are over!
I want to apologize for the submission, had I payed attention to the altered dialogue more than the awkward poses,I wouldnt have posted it in the first place, the whole page is even more disturbing now that you pointed out, dear god....
No worries I thought it was hilarious. I enlarged it to see what the dialogue was and just was very surprised. I laughed a bit and then edited the post to let everyone else know.
Good for a laugh which is one of the points of this blog so it’s fine by me. I figured it wasn’t an on purpose thing anyway.
Aw man I hope not. If it was I apologize to him. I might not like his art but Greg Land the person is actually really nice. His perception on how bodies should look is warped, sure, but he did a signing in the comic book store I work in a while back and he was very nice to me.
I like his art. Stop jumping on every internet bandwagon
I’ve been reading comics since I was 7 (1998). I liked Greg Land art on Birds Of Prey when it was coming out (before someone pointed out to me that he was tracing off other artists but no one told me that til years later) but as the years went by his art became less and less enjoyable for me. I am, in fact, capable of reaching my own conclusions about which art I like and which I don’t, as is Ava, and when it was discovered that most people felt this way that’s when Ava decided to create this blog. She would not have done it if it wasn’t for discovering like minded people out there, yes, but she didn’t create it to jump on any bandwagon.
That being said you are full allowed to have your own opinion. I don’t know why you’d ever bother looking at this blog if you have that opinion, but that’s besides the point. Our goal is not to offend people who like Land’s art, but to share with like minded people the reasons we don’t and have a little fun.
